Foundry United Methodist Church is an outgrowth of Foothills’ commitment to love God and to love God’s people where they live, work and raise their families. Chula Vista’s Otay Ranch and Eastlake are two of San Diego County’s most rapidly growing communities. Foundry UMC is looking to be a vital presence in these southeastern-most parts of Chula Vista.
Still in planning and formation, we are -- for now -- church the way it is defined in Ephesians…not a brick and mortar building, but a body of believers seeking to follow God’s directive to serve others. With Christ as the foundation, Foundry UMC follows Wesleyan traditions of opening doors to diversity, transforming communities and offering local and global service to those in need.
In fact, John Wesley’s early ministry experiences are how Foundry UMC got its name. There was a foundry in England in the early 1700s that was initially built as a cannon factory. After an explosion destroyed much of the building it was left unused for decades. Wesley renovated the building, transforming it into a church and community center. What was once a factory for weaponry instead became a place of comfort, peace and restoration.
Foundry UMC celebrates its Methodist heritage, while also providing a modern, relevant, inclusive and progressive theological voice in the community. Foundry is a place of mission and service with a focus on the process of worship, prayer, community-building and then action. Like Foothills, we are Community Serving Community for the transformation of the world. We look to experience Christianity as a life of faith…more than a place to visit on Sunday mornings.
