Time Out

Time Out

By: La Donna Chase

Many of you know that a few months ago I took a nasty fall, broke five ribs, and spent five days in the hospital. Not being able to do anything for myself for many weeks was hard on someone like me. Yes, I am impatient, (“Hurry up and get well”), and I am a worrier (“What if it takes months to heal?”) But, being totally honest, there were many wonderful things that happened during my weeks of recovery, not the least of which were all the most welcome cards, calls and meals I received from my wonderful friends and the special care I received from my husband and son. Another dynamic entered my life at this time. At the last church rummage sale I purchased a little book by Sarah Young called “Jesus Calling.” I now had time, (LOTS of time), to read a page per day and meditate on it. As an example:

“I am all around you, like a cocoon of Light. My Presence with you is a promise, independent of your awareness of Me. Many things can block this awareness, but the major culprit is worry. My children tend to accept worry as an inescapable fact of life. However, worry is a form of unbelief; it is anathema to me. Who is in charge of your life? If it is you, then you have good reason to worry. But if it is I, then worry is both unnecessary and counterproductive. When you start to feel anxious about something, relinquish the situation to Me. Back off a bit, redirecting your focus to me. I will either take care of the problem Myself or show you how to handle it. In this world you will have problems, but you need not lose sight of Me.”

Boy did this one speak to me! I don’t wish what happened to me on anyone but I highly recommend you find just a few minutes a day of quiet time to spend with our Heavenly Father to work on worry, impatience, or whatever you have going on in your life. “Be still and know that I am God.” Psalms 46:10. Thank you Father for my “time out.”
