Children's Choirs Have Begun
Have you heard? Children's Choir rehearses Sunday mornings from September - May, 9:30-10:15am in King Hall. Children will sing in worship several Sundays throughout the year. Sign up or send questions to interim children's choir director Julia Wallace. This choir is for children in grades K through 5.
Brew Up Some Faith
Have an equally enjoyable and insightful evening out with Pastor Eric and others from Foothills at the next brewing faith on October 5 at 6:30 pm. The small group meets to discuss questions of faith in a casual atmosphere at the Grossmont Center Hooley's.
You Are an Administrative Council Member
All members of Foothills UMC are members of the administrative council and the council is meeting on October 9 at 6 pm in King Hall. These meetings occur quarterly and all present discuss on vote on matters important to the functioning of the church. A complimentary dinner will be served to all in attendance, so please consider being a part of this all-important council.
The Sheriff and Foothills Folks
Make sure to set your calendar for October's Foothills Folks on the 12th at 11:45 am in the youth center. There will be a fantastic presentation from the San Diego sheriffs with a crime prevention officer, a detective and volunteer patrolmen present. They will discuss the current state of security and policing in the area..
A Kitchen Crew Thank You
We just finished our 6 month kitchen audit and we're absolutely delighted with what we found. Both kitchens were clean, uncluttered and organized. We did not find any wooden handled utensils (Yay!) and items are being returned to their proper places after cleaning and use. We can't thank you enough for continuing what we started. Our plan is to audit prior to each rummage sale with an eye toward replacing worn items. The notepads are still on the walls for your notes to us.
Thank you again, Your Kitchen Elves, Alice Broadhurst & Kathy Myers
October Kairos Retreat
Foothills is sending its missionaries back to prison for another Kairos retreat at RJ Donovan correctional facility. The retreat will run from October 27 - 30 and your help is needed to create the greatest impact for those who will be in attendance. The greatest need is for fresh, home-baked cookies that will be given to the inmates. Please bring them bagged by the dozen on Sundays 10/16 and 10/23. Since the cookies are going into a prison, there are specific rules to be followed. Instructions and much more information can be found on our website
South District Mission Team Support
The South District of the United Methodist church is sending 25 missionaries from 13 churches, including Foothills' Jim and Paula Perry, to Taylor, Texas from October 1 - 8 to help in flood relief. Please surround them in prayer during this time. If you are able to contribute a small amount to help the members of the team with provisions during their mission, please contribute through the Foothills website.
The Rummage Sale is Coming
The second rummage sale of the year is going to be October 3 - 8. Collection from 9 am - 5 pm on the 3rd, 4th and 5th and the sale occurring on the 6th and 7th from 9 am - 5 pm and from 8 am - 12 pm on the 8th. The rummage sales are a huge source of fundraising for Foothills' missions and a huge amount of donations come in. For that reason a large number of volunteers are needed. If you can donate a few hours or a day to help pull this sale off, please come to the church at any point during the sale and wear a Foothills shirt, if you have one.

Sign Up to Be An Acolyte
If your child or grandchild is in grades 4 through 7 and is interested in being an acolyte, sign-ups are happening every Sunday in September in King Hall. Acolytes serve every 4-6 weeks and are an important part of the worship service. They light the candles on the altar, assist the ushers with the offertory, and assist with baptisms. Acolyting is a meaningful step in a child's faith journey -- a path that they take alongside their parents/grandparents and the congregation. Training for new and continuing acolytes will be held October 23 at 11:45am in the choir room. Read More
The 7th Annual Bridge Marathon
The bridge marathon begins each year in September and runs for 8 months. Participants pay a $35 charitable buy-in and take part in the fun every 4th Tuesday of the month at 1 pm, here at Foothills. If you would like to participate in the next cycle of this fundraiser, please contact Marilyn Balzer to get your name on the list. The last meeting in May is the annual award luncheon. Of the $35 fee, $25 goes towards Foothills' missions and the rest goes towards the final luncheon and prizes.
