Lent to Easter: Where am I Going?

This Lent at Foothills we will focus on the question “Where Am I Going?”

Sundays in Lent

Scripture Alive
Sunday mornings during both hours of worship
Each week a selected scripture passage will be interpreted by a troupe of actors. We will have the opportunity to see these stories of Jesus come alive from the pages of the Bible.

Mondays in Lent

Meditative Prayer with Pastor Eric Smith
Every Monday morning in the Sanctuary 9:00 - 9:45 am

Take it on for Lent! Pastor Eric Smith will lead you on a journey of spiritual discipline​ with a time of meditative prayer. Experience a deeper connection with God during Lent. Mondays 3/6, 3/13, 3/20, 3/27, 4/3 and 4/10
The prayer sessions will be structured in this manner:
Welcome and greetings – 5 minutes
Orientation to the type of prayer – 10 minutes
Readings from the Psalms – 5 minutes
Meditative, silent prayer – the remainder of the time

Wednesdays in Lent

Wednesday evenings during Lent are a time to be together in community and learning. Soup and salad fellowship dinners are offered at each evening at 6:00 pm with a reservation. These evenings are open to everyone.
The Origins of Faith class and discussion begins at 6:45 pm and is led by Ann Marie Bryan.

Week 2: Buddhism, the Religion of the Silk Roads (3/15/17)
Week 3: Zoroastrianism, An Ancient Persian Religion of Salvation (3/22/17)
Week 4: Sunni Islam, The Origins of Islam and the Early Split Between Shi'a and Sunni Islam (3/29/17)
Week 5: Shi'a Islam of Iran, Origins and Beliefs that Endure Today (4/5/17)

A little About Ann Marie Bryan
Instructor of History at Grossmont College where she teaches World History and Western Civilization, Co-developer of the Grossmont College - Cuyamaca College Archival and Oral History Project, US Government instructor at Torah High School - an Affiliate of the Rabbinical Seminary, Taught at Alliant International University, Master's Degree in History from San Diego State University, Bachelor's Degree in both Economics and International Relations from UC Davis, Former enthusiastic member of Foothills UMC where she taught Sunday school and served on SPRC, Current member of Saint Paul's UMC where she serves on the SPRC.

Holy Week

Palm Sunday
April 9, both hours of worship
Join the fanfare as we celebrate before the road to the cross. The children of the church will begin worship each hour with the waving of the palms to the sounds of hallelujah. This is a bright and joyful morning that you don't want to miss.

Maundy Thursday Service
April 13, 7:30 pm
Be in the passion of the Holy Week with this traditional service and communion presentation along with fantastic musical performances.

Good Friday Neighborly Meditations
April 14, 12 pm - 3 pm at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran
Between 12 pm and 3 pm, we join with our neighbors at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran church, for an open sanctuary time of meditation. Park at Foothills and walk through the gate to the Lutheran sanctuary, which will be open to visitors to quietly come and go at any time as they please. Guest pastors will be speaking and praying at different times throughout:

1:00 - Pastor Jim Friedrich, "Woman, behold your son..."

Easter Sunday 4/16

THE DAWNING DAY - The message from Pastor Eric during 8:30 am & 10:30 am worship

EGGSTRAVAGANZA - 9:30 am between services
The Foothills campus is overrun with Easter eggs and we need your child's help finding them! The egg hunt starts promptly at 9:30am on the grassy lawn next to the sanctuary. After the hunt, you won't want to miss the fun-for-the-whole-family "eggstravaganza" in the King Hall Connection Center. Hint: it involves a puppet show and magic show and a drawing for a great prize!
