Bible in Between: God at Work

By: Denise Serino
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” Matthew 11:28-29
Earlier this year, I was asked to start an adult Bible study between first and second services called Bible in Between. It was a strange time in my life for a new calling; I was busy, tired and resisting change. But I cherish opportunities to be in God’s Word with other people, so of course I said, “Yes.”
The book of Matthew seemed an obvious choice for our study. In it, Jesus chooses the apostles and commands them to go out into the world to make disciples of all nations. With this new call to serve, I felt God was commanding me to “go out” as well. As I’ve worked my way through Matthew, however, God has changed my focus. He’s shown me that “going out” is only part of the equation; the command to “go” is preceded by a call to “come.” Jesus says, “Come to me… learn from me… I will give you rest.” That is exactly what Bible in Between has become -- a place to come, learn and rest.
Over the past several months, Bible in Between has grown into a small group of over 15 people who are excited to learn about Jesus and apply His teachings to daily life. It has also become a community of friends who pray together, care for one another and laugh a lot. In this group of people, Jesus has delivered on His promise.
Bible in Between closed out the year with a Christmas party last week. The study will resume on Sunday, January 5, 2014, at 9:35 a.m. in the Disciple Room. We’d love to have you join us!
