Common Ground Support in 2020

Common Ground Support in 2020

By: Mike Eulitt

For over 20 years, Common Ground has supported children and families in six elementary schools in the Spring Valley area by providing classroom volunteers, distributing free books to kids, hosting teas and luncheons, building bikes for kids, and addressing emergency needs for families. Our efforts have been hindered by the ongoing pandemic which has impacted two of our most critical activities: packing food boxes for families experiencing food insecurity and providing presents for parents to give to their children at Christmas. This year, the need is even greater than it has been in years past.

While we cannot gather together to pack food boxes or select a child’s name from the Christmas tree, we can still help to support children and families in our partner schools in other ways. Beginning Sunday November 22 and running through December 4, Common Ground is holding an online fundraiser through the Foothills website. Money raised during this campaign will be used to purchase Target gift cards which the schools will distribute to the families that they have identified so the parents may purchase gifts for their children. Common Ground will also purchase grocery store gift cards for families experiencing food insecurity during these difficult times.

An additional opportunity for you to contribute directly to children and our partner schools will be offered on Saturday, December 5, 9:00 am-12:00 pm. Common Ground will be hosting a drive-through drop-off event at Foothills in the lower parking lot to gather nonperishable food items as well as clothing items for kids including socks, sweatshirts, sweatpants, and underwear. We will also be collecting personal hygiene items requested by the schools such as shampoo, deodorant, soap, body wash, toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, hairbrushes, combs, etc.

Your contributions to these programs support our mission to help build healthy communities and make a real difference in the lives of the students and families. Should you have questions, you, please contact Michael Eulitt at svcommonground@gmail.com. Thank you.
