The Fiji Mission Trip

By Sarah Clarke
Planning has begun in earnest for the 2016 Mission Trip to Fiji.
Twenty people from Foothills have answered the call, and plan to travel to Fiji to participate in a project at the Davuilevu Theological College. The exact scope of the project has yet to be finalized but will include helping to refurbish the boys dorm with new plumbing windows and painting. The medical team will be seeing the theological students and families for any health issues. They will also be working in the nearby orphanage and squatters village.
We will be leaving June 23 and returning on July 9.
Although 20 people are going, we need the support of all of Foothills in prayer and in more concrete ways. Although each Mission Team member is responsible for funding their airfare to and from Fiji and other travel expenses, we also need to raise $20,000 for supplies to realize our project. You will have seen us at Alternative Christmas. You will see our red toolbox for collecting your small change. (That small change really adds up over time.) Our next big fundraiser is an Applebees Pancake breakfast on December 5th. If you didn’t buy a ticket at alternative Christmas, look for a Mission Team member on the patio for the next few weeks to buy your ticket. Applebees does not normally serve breakfast – they only do this for fundraisers.
Rev. Martha Kogle, our Mission Team leader, shared how excited the Neals are that we are coming to Fiji. The entire Mission Team will Skype the Neals at our next meeting. We are all looking forward to that.
Next June seems a long time away, but we know it will pass more quickly than we think.
