Extraordinary Hospitality 2.0 Brunch

On Saturday, May 18, from 9:30 am to noon, we are hosting a hospitality appreciation brunch and training to thank all those who have been involved in our hospitality ministries: our Ushers, Greeters, Kiosk volunteers, Parking Lot attendants, and particularly those who have been coordinating our volunteers. We also invite our front desk office volunteers as they, too are the “first contact” for visitors who arrive on our Foothills campus during the week.

If you are currently a part of these welcome ministries, you’ll be receiving an email invitation in the next few weeks with information on how to RSVP. Later in April, we’ll be posting an invitation to ALL who may want to join us in sustaining and growing a climate of extraordinary hospitality at Foothills.

Let me begin by saying we get an “A” for our hospitality ministries! Our greeters, (those at the upper and lower lots, those inside the narthex doors), kiosk information volunteers, parking lot attendants, ushers, front desk volunteers—we go above and beyond most churches as we offer sincere and friendly welcome to all who arrive!

We are so blessed at Foothills to have some of the most important things visitors look for when attending a church for the first time: friendly people to greet them, a clean and welcoming campus, beautiful sanctuary, dynamic worship with quality musicians, vocalists, engaging activities for their children led by friendly and competent staff and awesome preachers (ok, tooting our own horns!).

But there is no sugar-coating the reality that membership in mainline churches is declining. Therefore, it becomes even more important for us to self-reflect on how our visitors experience their first visit to increase the likelihood of their return. Getting an “A” in welcoming guests no longer is enough. We need to be able to “hit it out of the park” each and every time a visitor steps onto our campus. Thus, the name, “Extraordinary Hospitality 2.0:” we do a great job now, and it’s time to move to the next version for the “21st century version” of hospitality.

Over the next few weeks and months, we’ll be taking a close look at how we can “up our game” to be sure that visitors have the opportunity to discover this greatness! After all, who wouldn’t want to be a part of our faith community – we’re awesomely nice people who make a difference in the world while growing in our faith!

So I invite you, each time you arrive for worship, to be mindful of what the experience might be like for a first timer, and maybe make some notes with any creative ideas you may have to move the experience from great to “extraordinary”. For example, we have already moved to offering coffee for free, hoping to encourage everyone to stay a bit longer to visit. The info kiosk is now located where those lingering members are more likely to encounter our visitors. There are probably many creative ideas you may have as well.

There is one thing you can do now to “up our game” of extraordinary hospitality. If you have a name tag, please consider wearing it each and every Sunday. If you would like a name tag, or need a replacement contact our office.

Together, we can ensure that whenever someone visits our campus, they leave already anticipating their next visit.

With extraordinary Grace we have been welcomed into Loving relationship with our Creator, and through our Redeemer Jesus, we learn to extend that love to one another.
