Experience Community and Get Connected
By Rev. Jeanette Ham
I have often spoken about the small town I grew up in Arizona and the little United Methodist church that taught me about community.
It shaped my life and gave me an appreciation of the importance of building authentic community. So when I came to the big city of San Diego, I searched for community, but not for just a place to live -- a place where I could care and be cared for, with people I could know and be known with, that could gather together for meaning, purpose and doing life together.
What I prayed and wished for myself and my family is to be with a group of people where we could experience the life-giving power of community. I am fortunate to have found that in our Community here at Foothills. My husband Kevin and our children were involved for almost three years in a couple’s and family group, and I am now a part of the EarthCare small group.
There are a variety of ways for you to experience community, by taking that next step. This fall join an existing small group, or consider starting a new one. (The Foothills’ staff and pastors would love to talk with you and help you to begin one.) Or, get involved in serving opportunities with your family. A wonderful resource with all the many opportunities to Get Connected can be found at this link.
Jesus said, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” I pray that this fall you will find a way to connect, build community and grow in your faith that brings joy and greater meaning to your life.
