Camp-outs with Tentpegs
By: Marge Woods
If you haven’t been to a Tentpegs camp-out, here is your opportunity to get in on the fun at the Oakzanita Campground in the Cuyamaca Mountains. (This will be our first campout there since the devastating fire that destroyed much of the area). The camp-out is planned for the weekend of April 12-14, 2013.
What is Tentpegs? It’s an informal camping group sponsored by Foothills UMC and open to anyone who loves to camp. On Saturday night we have a barbecue/potluck. Each family brings their own meat to barbecue and a dish to share. After the barbecue, we gather around a campfire and sing songs. On Sunday morning we have an outdoor church service, sometimes preceded by a pancake breakfast. You don’t have to be a family to participate (we had several singles come to the last camp-out), and all ages are welcome. This is a great way to get to know other Foothillians, enjoy an indulgent potluck, sing songs around the campfire, relax in the Jacuzzi, participate in campground sports such as mini-golf, and many other activities.
While the campground amenities and activities are awesome, you can do as much or as little as you desire. Just sitting amongst the pine trees at the campsite is a much needed respite for many of us. But if you’re inclined to take a ride, Julian is just a hop, skip and a jump from the campground. There you will find many boutiques, great little restaurants, coffee and pie houses. Some of you may enjoy taking a tour of the nearby winery. Don’t miss out on this fun experience—make your reservations now. RV sites are $43 per night; tent sites are $28 per night.
