Pick Me Lord! Pick Me!

By: La Donna Chase
One of my favorite shows on television is called “American Pickers.” It’s about a couple of crazy, lovable guys who for years have made their living buying and selling other people’s junk. They buy stuff I can’t imagine anyone else wanting: old, rusted signs, broken motorcycles, bits and pieces of bicycles, old, junky cars that usually don’t run. “Farm fresh” is what they call their treasures and they absolutely delight in “saving” them from the scrap pile. On this show, one man’s junk certainly is another man’s treasure.
Now here’s where you have to stretch your imagination with me. I see a parallel between the “farm fresh treasures” (we humans), and THE “Picker,” (our Heavenly Father). Romans 3:23 says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Some of us are rusty; not real sure if we can be made to look or feel new again or even deserve to feel whole again. But Psalms 34:19 tells us, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” God can make us new again if we will let Him. Those of us who feel broken or in pieces for whatever reason can take heart in Psalms 46:1a, “God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…” Those of us who can’t quite seem to get ourselves running can take heart in Psalms 118:24, “This is the day which the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” And my favorite verse in the entire Bible, Isaiah 43:1b, “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”
Allow our Lord to pick you up when you’re down, get you running again when you feel broken, and make you sparkle again when you feel old and rusty. In closing, please read Matthew 11:28-30 and keep shining!
HAPPY NEW YOU!
