UMW Sunday 2015
By: Emma King
The Foothills United Methodist Women are starting the new year with our UMW Sunday on January 11 and our guest speaker will be Rev. Darin Arntson. Darin spent a lot of years growing up in our church as her mother was our Associate Minister, Rev. Cindy Arntson. We are very lucky to start out the new year with her.
Rev. Darin Arntson is among the newest class of provisional clergy in the Cal-Pac Conference. She graduated from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in May, 2014, and was commissioned at Annual Conference in June, 2014. She is currently serving as the Associate Pastor of San Dieguito UMC in Encinitas.
Prior to discerning a call to ministry, Darin attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, for a brief time, studying engineering, but completed her studies at the University of California, Irvine, with a degree in Dance. Her studies in modern dance and musical theater translate into her passion for liturgical theology and worship arts. While at Candler, Darin dedicated her extracurricular hours to serving in the seminary’s office of worship, which directed the planning and leadership of all three weekly worship services presided over by faculty and guest preachers across dozens of worshiping traditions.
Returning to Foothills feels somewhat like a long-awaited homecoming for Darin. She is deeply grateful to this congregation for the nurturing support they offered her to explore her faith and gifts for ministry as a young person. She is humbled by the opportunity to return, serving in this new capacity to share again in a sacred time of worship together.
Please plan on coming to either our 8:30 or 10:30 am service to welcome Darin back. We are lucky to have her here. Since it is UMW Sunday, please wear red if you are able.
