Be a Part of the June 11 Aloha Message
The June 11, 10 am worship service to say Aloha to Pastor Eric and Karen is going to be full of celebration. The normal message and meditation time will be delivered by John Parsons, who would like to include some messages from all of you. The theme for the evening will be gratitude and hope. Send a short, 1 sentence message directly to John Parsons to be a part of this worship.
Aloha Pastor Eric
June 11 will be Foothills' final Sunday with Pastor Eric, so we are having a grand celebration of his service and skills. There will be only one hour of worship at 10 am and it will be in the theme and season of aloha that Eric brought to us each summer. Be with your Foothills family as we say aloha and mahalo to both Eric and Karen, who have given so much to this church. An opportunity to donate to a gift fund will be forthcoming.
Summer Family Mission Team
The 2017 family mission team project has been announced! The group will be refurbishing the playground at El Cajon First UMC from 6/10-15. This is a perfect way to get to know our new ministry partners on the other side of town, to grow as a family and to grow as a faith community. Read More
Thanks You from the ISN Family
We are happy to introduce the Webb family: Ron, Auntranique (Nicole), and Nevaeh, (age 3). We met them when they were participants in the Interfaith Shelter Network, jointly held by Foothills UMC and Summit Unitarian Church in February. Since that time, the Webbs have secured an affordable apartment in North Park. Foothills was able to provide some basic furniture and household supplies, around $300 in gift cards, and take the family shopping for necessities at our April Rummage Sale. Having a place to live is allowing this adopted family to focus on a job search, with the help of a VA counselor. Thank you for your support in helping this family get back on its feet, and praise God for placing this possibility in our path.
Fiji Missionaries, The Neals, Preaching 6/18
On the first Sunday after Pastor Eric's departure, we will welcome the truly incredible UMC Fiji missionaries, the Neals, to our sanctuary. After years in mission to the island, they have returned home and Foothills is privileged to have them for a Sunday to hear their glorious message. Make a point to be in worship on this day.
UMW Brunch
The UMW is having their monthly meeting at a brunch in the Youth Center at 9:30 am on 6/6. All women of the church are encouraged to attend and be a part of this wonderful ministry of the church. They will be working on hygiene kits for the refugees that are discussed more in depth later in this newsletter.
Pure Sound Youth Choir at Foothills
The Pure Sound Youth Choir out of Bethany, Texas is going on tour and making a stop in San Diego. Foothills is lucky enough to host this talented group, that will be performing in the sanctuary on Wednesday, 6/21 at 6 pm. This concert is free and a great way to support these budding musicians.
Annual Conference
The Annual Conference is a gathering of all the churches within the California-Pacific conference of United Methodist Churches, that meet once a year to discuss and vote on issues that could affect governance of the greater United Methodist Church body. Many of the issues discussed at this conference go on to the General Conference, that is held every 4 years where changes to the United Methodist Book of Discipline are debated, discussed and voted upon. Foothills is sending  Sharon Russo, Chris Buckle, Pastors Eric and Jeanette, Amanda Grimm, Steve Hable and Denise Serino as delegates to represent the church from June 14-17. Please keep them in your prayers for wise discernment.
Foothills Folks
Many groups take a summer break, but not the Foothills Folks! This senior meet-up ministry is always looking to get together and have fun. The next meeting of the Folks will be on 6/14 at 11:45 am in the Youth Center. Just pay $3 for a luncheon entree and bring a side dish to share with all who attend.
A Class on the What and Why of Christian Belief
What do I believe? For Christians and others seeking faith, some powerful answers to this question are expressed in the Apostles' Creed: a historic statement of foundational Christian faith. In Adam Hamilton's compelling book and six week study we will explore what we believe and why. Foothills will be offering two times that this class can be taken on Sundays at 4 pm and Tuesdays at 10 am. The classes begin June 18. Read More and Sign up
Celebrating Our Graduates
Send the names of your high school, college or other higher education graduate to Sue Ranck by June 7, so that we can lift their great accomplishments in church and pray for all they will do. Be sure to include their full name, the school they are graduating from and their degree.

The United Methodist Church is transferring Pastor Eric to St. Andrew's By the Sea and placing a new pastor at Foothills, beginning July 1. Click here for the latest emails about the transfer

Youth Summer Camps at Cedar Glen
The summer camps at Cedar Glen are at the very least a wonderfully-fun experience, but we often hear that they are transformative for the youth that attend. Camps are available for youth aged lower elementary up through senior high to get away for a week to a camp in Julian that has tons of activities and programs put together by the United Methodist Church to bring everyone closer together and closer in Christ.
