Upcoming Highlights
10 am Summer Services, through September 10
Throughout the summer, Foothills will merge the usual two morning services into one hour of praise.
New and exciting programs and ministries will be highlighted each week with an emphasis on the ways we are working in our community to make a difference. If you are physically able, please park in the lower parking lot during these one-service Sundays, so we may reserve the upper parking lot for those needing assistance. Check out what's going on this summer:
8/27 - "This is the Record of John" performance by Foothills singers
9/3 - Neighborly Sunday with with Shepherd of the Valley. Potluck in their remodeled space after worship
9/10 - Ministry Fair in King Hall after worship with refreshments
The Elements of Faith, Sermon Series, through September 3
This Sunday, 8/27 - Peter's Confession (Matthew 16:13-20) Theme: Profession
Pastor Greg takes us through the book of Matthew and breaks down the very elements that comprise our faith. Take part in these great combined worship services at 10 am as we all work together to find out what it is that creates and sustains faith within us.
Fall Classes at Foothills
The summer is winding down and as Fall comes, church programs get kicked off. Three classes will be offered this Fall. Two class times are available for a program looking at Moses. The popular Spiritual Gifts class returns and a look at the 'Top Ten United Methodist Beliefs' will be available in early October. Read more about each of these classes and sign up online
Project Moses Kit Cutting Party
The group is hosting a 'Kit-Cutting-Party' on Tuesday, August 29 at 9:30 am in the Disciple Room. Come enjoy snacks, refreshments and fun as everyone cuts materials in preparation to be made into baby bassinets. The bassinets are made from simple items and provided, along with books and other small gifts, to impoverished families that have been identified by local hospitals. All are welcome.
Foothills Farmer's Market: Nourish Your Soul
September 10, come to King Hall after service and visit the ministry tables promoting food for the spirit. Whether volunteering in a cause, or participating in a group activity, enrich your life through the many offerings available. Plant a seed; each signature at a Ministry Table will be entered into a drawing for gift certificates to Farmer's Table restaurant in La Mesa.
Men's Fellowship Breakfast
On September 9th the Men of Foothills celebrate with a Fall kick-off breakfast with an outstanding menu that will satisfy any appetite. Help welcome Pastor Greg to his first breakfast with the Men's fellowship group. There is a lot of energy and activity coming this Fall, so join the men of the church to share ideas. Make your reservation by contacting Armond Wietzel, or the church office to register your attendance.
The ABCs (Adult Bible Class) Resumes September 17
Every Sunday between services, the ABCs are held in the Disciple Room. Classes begin at 10 am and are led by William Teysko. The group will center its open-forum style discussion around the book of John, conducted through the lens of the book by Rev. Adam Hamilton. Dive deeper into your biblical knowledge with this class opportunity.
Raise a Joyful Noise with the Foothills Choir
With the coming Fall, the choir will return to first service worship. Rehearsals resume at 7 pm in the sanctuary choir room on 8/31. Everyone is welcome to join this wonderful group, make new friends, learn singing techniques and work with conductor Dennis Keller to create beautiful performances throughout the year.
Don't Park in the Kaiser Permanente Parking Lot
For the moment, please do not park next door at the Kaiser clinic parking lot. After many years of having the ability to use their lot for overflow parking, the Kaiser ownership seems to have changed their mind. Parking is available on Fury road. The Foothills staff is looking into options and will keep everyone updated.
Ice Cream Social to Support Volunteers in Medicine
Gather the family for an 'End of Summer Ice Cream Social' at Chapel of the Valley UMC in El Cajon (1465 E. Madison Ave.) on August 27th at 3:00 pm. The event will raise funds for Volunteers in Medicine: the free clinic on the church campus that serves those who cannot afford health insurance. Drop by for ice cream and fun family outdoor activities!
Help Install Playground Equipment at Murray Manor Elementary
Serve a half or whole day installing a playground for 750 elementary students. 44 volunteers are needed on build day at Murray Manor Elementary School (8305 El Paso St, La Mesa, CA 91942), August 26, 9 am - 5 pm. Your help is needed, as this project is funded by a grant that requires volunteers from the community build the playground. Contact Shane Steinfeld for more information and a list of needed tools.
Discover Foothills on September 17
September 17, Foothills returns to two hours of worship at 8:30 and 10:30 am.
