Pastor Greg called for a special time of prayer, last Sunday evening. With difficulties in our nation and within the United Methodist Church, this was a time for local congregants to have a solemn moment to raise hopes and prayers for the way forward.

Upcoming Highlights 
10 am Summer Services, through September 10 
Throughout the summer, Foothills will merge the usual two morning services into one hour of praise.
New and exciting programs and ministries will be highlighted each week with an emphasis on the ways we are working in our community to make a difference. If you are physically able, please park in the lower parking lot during these one-service Sundays, so we may reserve the upper parking lot for those needing assistance. Foothills Farmers Market: Nourish Your Soul. "The idea of purpose is the idea that what we do matters to people other than ourselves." --Angela Duckworth. Find the purpose that speaks to you by shopping the ministry tables. Signing-up enters your name into a drawing for one of four $50 gift cards to Farmer's Table restaurant in La Mesa. Partake at the homemade baked goods table: your last stop at the fair!
The Elements of Faith Sermon Series through September 3 
This Sunday, 9/10 - Where 2 or 3 Are Gathered (Matthew 18:15-20) Theme: Community
Pastor Greg takes us through the book of Matthew and breaks down the very elements that comprise our faith. Take part in these great combined worship services at 10:00 am as we all work together to find out what creates and sustains faith within us.
UMCOR Assists with Hurricane Harvey Relief 
The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) has put together a fund and a comprehensive list of how you can help the people of Texas who have been displaced by hurricane Harvey. Even if you aren't able to give money, UMCOR has a list of things that you may be able to provide, or do, that could help those in need. Click here for the information  
United Methodist Women Dinner   
A new ministry year means a new year of United Methodist Women in ministry. They will be having their first meeting on September 19, at 6:00 pm in King Hall. The cost is $12, which includes a catered dinner. The speaker will be Rev. Bill Jenkins of the Christ United Methodist Ministry Center. His ministry center houses a variety of congregations and was formed after an existing United Methodist Church became unable to support itself. Charge Conference to Merge with El Cajon First UMC  
After several months of prayerful discussion and discernment, Foothills is moving forward with its plan to merge with El Cajon First UMC for purposes of creating the Good Shepherd Ministry Center. A vote on the proposed merger will occur at a single-issue Charge Conference at 6:00 pm Sunday, September 17, 2017. Rev. William Jenkins of Christ Ministry Center will preside. All are invited and encouraged to attend.
Children's Choirs Resume Soon 
Foothills' wonderful children's choirs, led by Julia Wallace, start back up beginning 9/17! The K through 3rd grade students will rehearse on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am in King Hall, while an all-new 4th, 5th, 6th choir and fellowship time starts up on Thursdays from 4:40 - 6:15 pm. Financial Peace University  
This life-changing class is taught by Dave Ramsey and the FPU teaching team on video and coordinated by John Kolb and Linda Miller. It will help you achieve your financial goals by showing you how to eliminate debt, save for the future, and give like never before. You will be challenged and motivated to make a plan for your money and change your family's legacy forever. Many people at Foothills have taken the course and have found financial peace in their lives. 9 sessions, Thursdays, beginning September 14 at 6:45 pm. Read more and sign up online 
St. John's Bible Print Exhibition 
In 1998, famous calligrapher Donald Jackson, was commissioned by St. John's Abbey to create an illuminated Bible for the modern age. The work is considered a masterpiece and exquisitely beautiful. From Ocotber 1 to November 5, 25 of the prints will be on display at First United Methodist Church of San Diego in a special exhibit. Get all the details from their website
Fall Classes at Foothills 
Summer is winding down and we kick off our fall season with a variety of engaging Adult classes. Three classes will be offered this fall. Two class times are available for a study on Moses. The popular Spiritual Gifts class returns and a 6 - week class will discuss the Top Ten United Methodist Beliefs which begins in early October. Men's Fellowship Breakfast 
September 9th the Men of Foothills celebrate with a Fall kick-off breakfast with an outstanding menu that will satisfy the appetite and the heart. Help welcome Pastor Greg to his first breakfast with the men's fellowship group. This fall is a time of change and renewal at Foothills. Join the men of the church to share ideas. Make your reservation by contacting Armond Wietzel, or the church office to register your attendance.
The ABCs (Adult Bible Class) Resumes September 17 
Every Sunday between services, the ABCs are held in the Disciple Room. Classes begin at 10 am and are led by William Teysko. The group will center its open-forum style discussion around the book of John, conducted through the lens of the book by Rev. Adam Hamilton. Dive deeper into your Biblical knowledge with this class opportunity. 
Discover Foothills on September 17  
September 17, Foothills returns to two hours of worship at 8:30 and 10:30 am. Right after the second hour, at 11:45 am in the Youth Center, those interested in learning more about the mission, vision and values and Foothills are welcome to a complimentary luncheon and discussion. Pastors Greg and Jeanette will lead the group and answer questions. Read More  
Interested in Becoming a Lay Leader? 
Lay leaders are members of a congregation who service as pastoral liaisons and a two-day training event is coming up 9/8-9 in Los Angeles through the UMC. If you're interested in becoming a lay leader and beginning the three-year cycle of training, click here to read more and find out how to register.  
Brewing Faith in September! 
The casual, free-form, small group is up and running. August's meeting just happened, but the schedule is now on track to occur on the first Wednesday of each month. September's meetup will be on 9/6 at 6:30 pm at Hooley's Grossmont Center. Get to know Pastor Greg and your Foothills family with this informal time to discuss questions of faith. Read More
