Photos of Foothillians
A big thank you is in order for all the Foothills folks who helped in so many ways at the Interfaith Shelter Network rotation this year. With your help, we hosted up to 12 individuals at the January 2018 shelter. Our congregation adapted well to our wonderful new facility at the Good Shepherd Ministry Center in El Cajon and even the unexpected flu epidemic which affected our volunteers. Steering committee members, including Suzanne Vattuone, Lianne Moss, Bob Harless, and Joyce MacKinnon, were extremely effective in guiding our congregation through this annual service effort for our homeless neighbors. Thank you so much!

Upcoming Highlights
Lent Word-a-Day on Facebook
Many UMCs around the nation are taking part in a word-a-day Lent social study on Facebook in which the church posts a word and the congregation posts pictures or GIFs that demonstrate it. Foothills is doing a special version with our words cultivated from the Lenten Devotional booklets, so lovingly curated by Shandra Zawacki. Be sure and follow our Facebook page and take part in centering your thoughts on this journey together. The words are posted every morning at 6:45 am.
UMW Dinner this Tuesday
The UMW is having a dinner on Tuesday, February 20 at 6 pm in King Hall. The speaker will be Polly Petersen; Spiritual Growth leader for the California Pacific Conference of United Methodist Churches. Consider joining this amazing group in their mission at this month's meeting.

This Lent, join Pastor Greg and Denise Serino as they co-lead a Bible study entitled "Turn Around." The study will focus on passages from the Gospels of Mark and John, which will coincide with Pastor Greg's sermon series during Lent. The six-week study will be held on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm in King Hall. The class will meet on Feb. 21 & 28, and March 7, 14, 21 and 28. Sizes for ages 4 through 8. Pick up a pack and drop them off in the Common Ground wagon just outside the church doors.
Early Response Team Basic Training
March 10, at First UMC San Diego, 8 am - 5 pm, $40.
United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) sponsors Early Response Teams (ERTs) to fill specific needs in the early days after a disaster, such as cleaning out flood-damaged homes, removing debris, placing tarps on homes and otherwise helping to prevent further damage, while providing a caring Christian presence. To be eligible for an ERT team you must take the 8 hour Basic Class ERT. You will then be provided with an ERT identification card which is valid for three years. A Renewal Class of 4 hours is required every 3 years. A background check (conducted through the California-Pacific Conference through Safe Gatherings) is required in order to receive an ERT identification card and participate on a team.
50th Anniversary Lunch
Anyone confused by this title may be interested to know that this year is actually Foothills' 60th anniversary. More details and events on that topic will come later in the year. This event is held every year in February to celebrate those enduring couples in our congregation that are celebrating 50 or more years of marriage this year. Please contact Sue Ranck, if you believe you or someone you know qualifies. The church has a list, but wants to make sure that everyone is included. The luncheon will be held on 2/24 at 11:30 am in King Hall.
For moms of infants through school age children. Gatherings for encouragement, prayer and support are held on and off campus in homes or restaurants throughout the year on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at 6 pm. A variety of activities are enjoyed and free childcare is offered with reservation. Join the Facebook group, or get more information from Pastor Jeanette
Pancake Breakfast at Applebee's

Share a Ride to Church
Love your neighbor! In light of Valentine's Day and wanting to share our love, we will be kicking off a new program: RIDES TO CHURCH. You will all be given the opportunity to love your neighbor by volunteering to provide a ride to church once a month (or more, or as a substitute) for a person who is unable to come to worship any other way. If you just can't wait until the kick-off date to volunteer, contact Sue Rand and she will add your name to the list. There's possibly someone right in your neighborhood who would benefit greatly from being able to attend one of our Sunday morning worship services!
Financial Peace University is Back in Session
9 session course, Thursdays at 6 pm (beginning March 1) in the Youth Center. Watch a preview of what FPU is all about here.
